Hades

In Hercules (1997), Hades is the villain, while Hercules is the hero. Hades has a unique way of being a villain. In Hercules, he has a friendly type of personality but at the same time he has an evil one as he tries to take Hercules as a child and make him mortal. Hades has his sidekicks who are Pain and Panic, which I think the producers did a really good job with because it brought humor to Hades character. Hades also does a good job of making Hercules develop as a character because in every movie, the hero needs developing so that he can find himself. I think this is the most important trait a villain can have because the hero is the star of the movie and the villain is the secondary character. This creates a strong bond between the villain and the hero, which Hades creates in the beginning of the movie, stealing him and trying to make him mortal. As the movie progresses Hades figures out that he is still alive and not mortal, which prompts him to start to engage with Hercules and this builds a stronger bond between the two.

Anger

Hades has different types of personality traits during the movie. One of the best personality traits he has is being angry because it brings out laughter to the audience. In multiple scenes he is shown getting angry and turning red, while screaming but he quickly comes back to being cool and blue. In the first picture, Hades is shown choking Pain and Panic because he finds out that Hercules is still alive, after they told him they killed him. This scene lays a foundation for how the story starts, because this introduces Hades as the villain and introduces Hercules as the hero. When Hades gets angry, you feel bad for the character because he can never catch a break but once you start thinking about it, you come back to the realization that he did try and do evil things. In the second frame, it is showing Hades getting angry about Hercules defeating all of his monsters that he assembled to take over the world and defeat Zeus. This is another huge moment in the movie where both Hades and Hercules have a character development. When Hades finally figures out that Hercules is getting stronger, he begins to try and think of different ways to beat him, which he thinks about a master plan that works for a good amount of time but in the end it doesn't work out.

Comedy

The best personality trait that Hades has in my opinion is the ability to be funny and say subtle jokes during the movie. Disney does a incredible job with this character trait because as Hercules is still a kids movie, he does say some comedic sayings that are for the adult audience that most children won't understand which grabs everyone's attention. The best thing a villain can have is being funny because it makes the audience laugh, along with giving the audience some favor towards the villain. I think they do this because when the audience really dislikes the villain, you hope and wish that he fails, along with crashing and burning but with Disney, they give him some of a light side of making him funny and more favored. The first scene is my favorite comedy scene because he is about to take over Olympus, and the monsters start to walk the wrong way and Hades says “Olympus is that way”. This is my favorite comedic scene because he is in the evil rush and wanting to take over Olympus and he just throws out a joke like it's nothing, and this is the stuff that makes his character unique and looked on more favorably. In the second scene, Hades has a flame as hair and when Hercules blows it out he comments “is my hair out”, as he is fully bald which young children think is funny when they see a bald person. The way Hades makes it a joke and makes it comedic is really interesting and unique. Disney does an amazing job with making Hades have a comedic side while having an angry side because it gives him multiple character traits where kids can like the movie and adults can too.
